Early in my career, I lost a listing because I lacked patience and experience. I put a flat in West Calder on the market, and when it didn’t generate immediate interest, I advised the client to reduce the price – twice within a couple of months.
The client lost confidence in me and instructed another estate agent. I was devastated when I received that call.
What I learned:
That experience completely changed how I conduct business. I realised that as an estate agent, I need to show patience, communicate better with clients, and not panic if results aren’t instant. Property sales take time, and knee-jerk price reductions aren’t always the answer.
I now share this lesson with the entire team at Bridges Properties. Sometimes the best way to learn is through mistake, and I make sure we all benefit from what I’ve experienced so our clients receive the best possible service.
That early setback shaped the way we work today, and I’m genuinely grateful for the lesson it taught me.
